The One With A Business Card

With all of the ridiculous situations I have been in/put myself in,
I started to think the possibility of a romantic man was out the window.
Turns out he was just out on the streets of San Francisco!

Let's take this back to Valentine's Day.
I won radio tickets to a "Bitter Ball" in SF for V-Day
and since myself and the majority of my friends are single,
we made the journey out to the city that night.

With our club outfits on, we were ready to hit the town
and enjoy a live performance by Icona Pop.
We were waiting to cross the street to the club
and there was a guy on a bike behind us.
We made eye contact for a second and I turned back around
not thinking anything of it.

Next thing I know, there was a tap on my shoulder.
It was the bike guy!
"I'm sorry, I just wanted to tell you that you are beautiful."

With my standard, awkward "Thank you" I turned back around.
My friend laughed and screamed, "It's her skirt!"
And he responded back, "No, it's her eyes!"

The light finally turned and my friends and I crossed the street to get in line for the club.
As we waited to get in, the guy on the bike rolled up and said
"I just had to come back and give this to you."
He handed me his business card and biked away.

Is this real life?!

I was shocked by his boldness
and due to the fact that he didn't creep me out or make me feel uncomfortable,
I thought, why not give him a chance?

After a great night in SF filled with dancing, singing and drinking, and good vibes,
the next day I decided to text him-
"Hey this is the girl you gave your card to the other night. I applaud your boldness."

So there was my short, sweet and to the point text,
and then there is his...
"Thanks. It was the day, it was your eyes. I'm a hopeless romantic. There is no real connection in the digital era we live in. It used to be that just a warm
captivating glance was all someone needed. I applaud your smile."

Can you say swoon?!

I asked him what he was doing in SF that night and he said-
"A retrospective of avant garde radical Japanese films at the SF Yerba Buena Center."

Ok, how do I compete with that?!?
While he was being all hipster/artistic as shit,
I was drinking cheap rum and watching my friend drop it low with five guys at once.
I have a feeling our worlds are very, very different...

Either way, we have made plans to meet up and I can only imagine
the sweet, artistic, heart melting words he will say in person!
Update to come later...
Until then, enjoy some Icona Pop!

 "I'm from the 90's bitch!"

The One Who Likes Smart

It's been about two months of online dating, give or take,
and I have survived four dates thus far.
They have consisted of beer, coffee, coffee, and coffee.
As well as admitting to getting a little emotional during movies.

Now, I am all for guys opening up and expressing their emotions
if they are going through a hard time,
but when it comes to movies, maybe don't admit on the first date
that you cried more in Les Misérables than the girl you went with.

I appreciate the honesty but I also appreciate some mystery in a date.
And while overall it went well and he was a great guy,
I feel like I still need to keep my options open...

I just got a few new messages in my inbox and
I mean, when I get a message like this,
how could I not want to meet up with this guy?!

"Hey girl hey. I am a shirtless buff guy who likes glasses and names that start with the letter A (because it's first)."

What a charmer...and shirtless?
Hell yeah!

Now for his profile-
What he is looking for: "A 6'4 Amazon woman capable of crushing my body whilst in the throes of an erotic experience. Or smart. I like smart."

I mean, I guess I am one of those...
So I have a shot! Right?

The One With a Warning

Having a public blog should come with some warnings-
like having to prepare yourself for the backlash,
ridicule and judgements from readers.

BUT

You also have to deal with the "wonderful" advice
family members give you on your life
since they will all stalk you
because you know you never fill them in on anything.

While at work, I received a text message from my cousin Leo
(Yes, the one who said "I love you" to his girlfriend for the first time during Conan)

And he wanted to make sure I knew what I was getting into
with this whole online dating thing...

Leo: "Everything on the internet is built on a foundation of lies. Best of luck."

Me: "Thank you for the positive words of encouragement and support..."

It makes sense now why, at 30, he still does not have a Facebook.
He does not want to be a part of the lying game!
Or the stalking I'm sure his crazy ex girlfriend would do.

Either way-
Wise words from a wise man.
I mean, he was on the show Wipeout,
where he made it to the final round but all he got was a black eye...
So close to winning though.
A lot to learn from the man.

So watch out online dating world!
Because I know that
"No man has a good enough memory to make a successful liar."
Abraham Lincoln
(Another wise man...)

But these words of wisdom did not just appear once they found out I had entered the dangerous online dating world.
No.
My family was giving me advice long before that
while I was going through my 'meeting guys at bars' phase...

This came in the mail from my Aunt
after I moved into a new place near some bars-

"Something to think about on your way to the bars!"

And here is the front of the postcard-

My family knows me too well...

The One With the Hashtag Problem.

Remember this guy?
The one who thought I was sick?

Well surprise, surprise! He actually contacted me again!

4 days later...

The texts started off with 'getting to know you' questions,
but then things got interesting.
This is the charming conversation I was lucky enough to have with my bar boy:

Bar Boy: "I'm a Sonoma State legend"

"How so"

"Beats me.Some people have greatness thrust upon them..."

"Lucky you."

"I mean, I am really fucking cool. But it's not all I talk about"

Such a cool guy.
Can't wait to get to know him more!
And so the conversation continues...

Bar Boy: "I don't believe in humor. Life is too short to make jokes"

"Life is too ridiculous not to!"

He continued with how he creepily knows everything about me,
but then the subject of TVs came up...

Bar Boy: "I don't really enjoy TV...except I have two dope TVs in my room #richkidproblems."

Did he seriously just hashtag in a text?!

Bar Boy Continues: "But I have realized that money is not everything.
I know I'm going to be rich so I've worked hard on other aspects of my life."

"Such as?"

"Relationships, being healthy...heavy drinking"

"I don't really understand why you are saying this to me..."

"On that note, I am done texting you lol."

"Nice getting to know the real you."

"<3"

I mean, at least he loves me?
Fast forward a week and this is what he texts me-

"Whatcha doing. It's Tuesday, time to get drunk!"

Yeah, I was already asleep when he sent this one to me,
#fulltimejobproblems

So the next day I responded with-
"Sorry, was already blacked out. It was a Tuesday after all."

"Fair enough. I was pretty drunk myself."

It has been about a week now and I have not heard from my bar boy.
But it is almost the weekend...
which means there may be a chance of some entertaining texts coming my way.

Fingers crossed.
I just know this one is a keeper.

The One Who Was A Toddler

If you dress up as a toddler for Halloween and a guy at a bar hits on you...
you might want to find another guy.

Happy Halloween!
